American Le Mans, Lime Rock 2007, Part 2
Posted on July 7th, 2007 by kym.garcia.
This was such an exciting weekend at the races! We started off with the big announcement … of course yesterday we'd speculated wildly about what this big announcement might be and as is always the case, our speculation wasn't quite as fantastic as the real thing. Basically for $100,000 you too can join Lime Rock Club with follow on dues of roughly $5500 / yr. The objective is to guarantee Lime Rock Park remains the premier race course in the Northeast; that the facility is significantly improved without losing any of its charm or character; and that the track is a viable business for the next fifty years. The Club at Lime Rock Park is an opportunity for a limited number of people, 300 maximum, to have significant track time with 60 dates annually to choose from while also enjoying the company of like-minded enthusiasts. This is unprecedented access to Lime Rock Park where it is currently impossible to rent even an hour. If you want to join - call Scott Tranchemontagne: (603) 540-4380
Then, once again, Mr. Bradley drove the Dyson car into the grid morning & afternoon; by the time he did it in the afternoon it was ho hum (baahahahahaha - and if you believe that I'll sell you this nice bridge we have here in Poughkeepsie too *wink*).
Bob Gorgeous Blue Eyes, one of
the IMSA officials, led me astray when he told me we had the proper grid sheet
for the IMSA Lites only to find out (FROM THE DRIVERS) that we didn’t, that was
an exercise in chaos but as Dave said, People do remarkable things in the midst
of chaos and we prevailed, as always. We let Bob off the hook this time
especially after he apologized. Who could stand strong against those eyes
anyway?!
Speaking of chaos, it was awesum
to see all the spectators at LRP today, the place was PACKED. Here is the a view of
the hill from station 3, and here is a view from station
3 back toward station 2. I sat up there where the spectators are, on the
other side of the track from station 2 for about an hour so i could watch some
of the race. It’s a good view from there. And of course a great view from
Station 2, but nothing like the view this guy had from the top of
the bridge. Some other good views were from the tower, both upstairs
and down.
But enough about the views… the race itself was a bit disappointing. My team
didn’t finish on the podium and maybe they would have, had it not been for Audi
and the bump that Guy got blamed for and had to do a stop & go for. But
that’s just my opinion of course Anyway, I
lost a dollar bet regarding setting a new track record - looks like PJ’s record
from 1993 may stand indefinitely. Oh well, despite the bumps in the road, it
was still a most excellent day. I posted a few more photos
… of note are Guy
& the Mrs, a
couple who got married at the park today - they met there, they got engaged
there and today they got married there - isn’t that sweet?, and some of the Dyson
team in the pits.
OH! I got some interesting
autographs today too: Rob Dyson (the back of my shirt), Roger Penske (on a die cast model
of the rs spyder), and the entire Corvette racing team on my free vette
t-shirt. Not bad at all.
At the end of the day it was
bliss to just sit and sip a cold one, lmao (what did you say about Dyson
racing?!), and share all the juicy news of the day. Yeah, I love my SCCA
family! All in all - a weekend I will never forget.
