Lime Rock Track Re-Paving Update
Lakeville, CT (23 June 2008) - Three down, two weeks to go before the race track at Lime Rock Park is re-paved and "ready for business!"
Big Bend, the Lefthander and the right turn onto No Name Straight had to be completely dug up, to a depth of 3.5 feet, to build a proper base. The excavation involved installation of a membrane that prevents hydraulic movement of silt and sand upward into the new gravel.
The rest of the track has been milled twice; one inch first, then a second .75-inch pass. The outside of the Front Straight has a third one-inch pass. Driving on it prior to new asphalt already yields a huge improvement!
An "as built" survey has been conducted, to re-create the Classic Track - minus the concrete patches and bumps. Final paving - the "wearing lift" in asphalt lingo - was schedule to begin this week.
Track construction will continue throughout June, and be officially unveiled for the American Le Mans Series Northeast Grand Prix, July 11-12.
